Edward Mulraine's The Gathering at Gethsemane was written in 2009. It is his first major publication and first novel. The book is based on Jesus at Gethsemane where he is conflicted by the flesh and the spirit. The book then moves with the conflict of nine preachers who are brought together for a conference on politics, race and the social environment of America. Each preacher addresses the issues with intellectual persuasion and theological might refrencing the bible as their guide. However, as the story goes and the plot thickens each preacher begins to expose their own personal flaws and serious dilemmas with issues ranging from depression, lust and insecurity. The conflict of the spirit and flesh is a real battle making for an interesting read and eye opening experipence. The surprise ending is most captivating. Warning: every preacher can find themselves in one personality or another in these pages.
